Merlot Dreams
Watercolor on Paper, 16 x 12
Original – SOLD
As featured on Goose Ridge Winery’s Cellar Select Artist Series wine label released in the Fall of 2013.
I painted this piece while I was living in Aiken, South Carolina. It was large–22″ x 30″–which is about as big as a watercolor painting gets unless you buy paper on rolls. 🙂 Sometimes the gem in a painting, though, is a portion of it. So, this painting because three paintings. One piece is with a collector in New Mexico. And another portion became this piece…the Goose Ridge wine label.
Anyhoo, I love this particular color combination (Holbein’s Leaf Green and Bright Violet are two of my favorites), and the nice fluid motion to it. It’s initial name, by the way, was Viney Stuff because, well, it didn’t really have a name yet. Once it was going to become a wine label though, I figured it needed a proper name. LOL. A collector in Oregon, Kathie, came up with the moniker “Merlot Dreams.”
One last little tidbit about this piece is that some people like it rotated 45 degrees. In fact, this is how Merlot Dreams is featured on the wine label.
